Preview of health care debate?...Death in Iraq....Bridge...Nov 22 2009 7:57PM
Associated Press Washington (AP) The nearly $1 trillion Senate health care bill could be in for a rowdy debate on the Senate floor. Democrats have already been sparring with each other on the Sunday talk shows, as moderates threaten to scuttle any legislation that doesn't meet their demands. More liberal members are warning party leaders not to give in. BAGHDAD (AP) The U.S. military says an American soldier was killed in action in Iraq earlier today. A military statement says the soldier was from the Multi-National Division South. No further details are available. LONDON (AP) British police and Army experts say they're making urgent safety checks of about 1,800 bridges in northern England. That's after some of the worst storms ever recorded in Britain brought flooding that destroyed several river crossings. More than 1,000 homes have been flooded. Concerns over bridge safety have crippled the region's road network. MIDDLETOWN, Pa. (AP) A Nuclear Regulatory Commission official is reporting that the small amount of radiation detected at the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant isn't significant. Specialist John White also says there's no sign the radiation exceeded or even approached regulatory limits. About 150 employees were sent home from the central Pennsylvania plant yesterday, but officials said there was no public health risk. LOS ANGELES (AP) Tonight's American Music Awards pits the King of Pop against the country cutie. The late Michael Jackson has five nominations, while Taylor Swift has six. Both are also up for artist of the year. Jackson is nominated for his greatest-hits collection, "Number Ones." The album surged in popularity after Jackson died in June.
