ND House rejects resolution to honor rock singer Bono...Feb 15 2007 11:15AM
Associated Press Bismarck, N.D. (AP) The rock star Bono (BAH'-noh) wasn't a hit in the North Dakota House today. Representatives turned down a resolution to praise Bono for his work on Third World debt relief, and for easing hunger and poverty. The vote was 58 to 35 against. Opponents of the bill say Bono doesn't have any connection to North Dakota. He is a native Irishman and leader of the rock band U-2. Fargo Representative Scot Kelsh introduced the resolution. He says he got the idea from a magazine for state legislators. Kelsh says Bono was recently honored by President George W. Bush. Kelsh says if Bono is good enough for the president of the United States, he should be good enough for the North Dakota Legislature. During House debate today some of the legislators said they didn't know who Bono was. One lawmaker said he thought the resolution was about Sonny Bono the late husband of the singer Cher. Sonny Bono is a former Republican congressman. (Copyright 2007 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) APNP 02-15-07 1107CST |

It is hard to imagine that N.D. legislators wouldn't know who Bono is, given that he's been nominated several times for the Nobel Peace Prize, has been Time's Person of the Year, & was the keynote speaker at the Prayer Breakfast in 2006. On top of those accolades, are there no U2 fans in North Dakota??
