A Divide County farmer shot and killed a mountain lion on his property yesterday.

The North Dakota Game and Fish Department reports the man got a call from his mother about a commotion at the farm near Fortuna and went to investigate.

The farmer says he found the lion crouched in the grass nearby and shot it.

Game and Fish Biologist Dorothy Fescke fess-key says the 112-pound mountain lion was about 2-and-a-half years old and was probably wandering through the region in search of habitat.

The Game and Fish Department considers the shooting justified to protect property.
