Pomeroy talks about farm billJul 2 2007 11:09PM
KXMBTV Bismarck He is in Bismarck meeting with producers to give an update on the process of the 2007 farm bill. (Rep. Earl Pomeroy / (D) North Dakota) "Whether or not we come away with program that does the job for farmers relative to their risk protection needs, especially relative to price fluctuation. Or if we come away with a radical departure from what has been maintained. That's scrapping the system and going a different direction. That's really up in the air right now." Wilton Farmer Mark Molkup says maybe farmers need to take a different approach in pushing for a farm bill. He says they should show lawmakers how money has been used and how america has benefited from ag programs. (Mark Molkup / Wilton Farmer) "If I recall correctly, in the 60's spent 20% of income on food. I believe now it's 12%. When you start talking about success story, that's a tremendous success story. Maybe we need to do a little better job selling our successes and tell them where this money has gone." Pomeroy says he thinks there is a better chance of the farm bill being changed than being completely removed.
