Motorsports such as Nascar and Indy Car racing seem to dominate TV every Sunday afternoon

Reporter Tia Elzenga tells us about a growing motorsport right in your backyard.

(Nats) Joe: The speed and the thrill of being right next to somebody Don: average race day we're doing between 30 and 35 miles an hour Reporter: These guys mow down the competition on race day....lawn mower racing....some might think its a joke, but the North Dakota Lawn Mower Racing Association, doesn't see it that way

Don: we're racing lawnmowers, nobody takes you seriously Rocky: we race for the love of the sport trophies only there is no money involved there's no purse what so ever in lawn mower racing, we race strickly for the fun of it

Reporter: These machines aren't exactly the mower you'd use on your own lawn...instead they turn a chore, into a sport Rocky: the competition its racing honestly a lot of people don't understand that when they see lawn mower racing they expect a machine to go out and go lawnmower speed, we don't do that..

Joe: it's the thrill thing we're going about 40 miles per hour and its it doesn't look like you're going that fast till you get on one, and its the enjoyment

Reporter: Lots of time and money goes into these machines, which are built custom, from the grass up....the NDLMRA does a traveling show, but they also travel to other states to race in the National Lawn Mower Racing Series. For KX News, I'm Tia Elzenga.
