Future of MSU-Bottineau Building Debated

A building just added to the National Register of Places is in danger of being torn down unless a plan for its future is worked out soon.

That's what the president of MSU-Bottineau says.

Dr. Ken Grosz says Old Main stands empty and unused right now - ever since a new building went up last year adjacent to Old Main.

Grosz says he's hopeful a community meeting tonight will lead to the establishment of a committee to begin looking into funding for refurbishing Old Main.

He says the building is a centerpiece of the MSU-Bottineau campus.

(Dr. Ken Grosz, MSU-Bottineau President) "And it has been for a long time - it's got some architectural significance. Of course what it takes is resources to rehabilitate it and ideas about how to use it in the future. There's some timeliness to it because if we're going to put it to use, we need to make that decision and raise the funding that we need in order to move forward in a short period of time."

He estimates the cost of rehabilitating Old Main at two-and-a-half to three million dollars.

A public meeting to discuss the future of Old Main at MSU-Bottineau will begin at seven tonight.

It'll be held in the new addition to Thatcher Hall. watch the video | save this article / add to your favorites list
