Pomeroy in Guatemala to Help Build Houses

North Dakota Congressman Earl Pomeroy is in Central America...but he's not on vacation

Pomeroy is in Guatemala this weekend to help build houses for poor families assisted by The GOD'S CHILD Project

The GOD'S CHILD Project was founded in 1991 by North Dakota native Patrick Atkinson to help orphaned and abandoned children that Atkinson had removed from war zones and poverty-stricken areas in Guatemala and raised during the 1980's. The project now includes a world-wide network of clinics, schools, nutrition sites, foster-homes and community development centers and is headquartered in Bismarck

In addition to building houses in Guatemala, Pomeroy plans to tour the newly constructed Scheel Centera school that educates 165 regional teens, the vast majority of whom dropped out of school in 1st or 2nd grade and are attempting to break free of street gangs. watch the video | save this article / add to your favorites list

Posted by Dakota too on Jan 7 2008 10:21AM - It was reported that he's in Guatemala on his own dime, and I'm very impressed that Pomeroy would spend his personal time and money working for such a wonderful cause!
