Marijuana bag causes car to overheat

Eds: APNewsNow.

Bismarck, N.D. (AP) Burleigh County authorities made a drug arrest after stopping a car on Interstate 94 because it had steam rolling out from under the hood.

Sheriff's Lieutenant Nick Sevart says a deputy discovered a bag of marijuana shoved against the vehicle's air intake, which was causing the car to overheat.

Thirty-seven-year old Johnny Lerma, of Mandan, was charged Friday with felony possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and misdemeanor driving under suspension.

Posted by tub3rcul0s1s on Apr 20 2008 1:40PM - Call Earl Pomeroy and tell him to support H.R. 5843 An Act to Remove Federal Penalties for the Personal Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adults. It's a step in the right direction!

Posted by ganja guy on Apr 20 2008 3:49PM - Want to save thousands of lives every year? Ban alcohol, legalize pot.

Plus, KFC would probably start to deliver chicken. Everybody wins!

Posted by John on Apr 21 2008 4:18AM - I for one am glad weed is still illegal because of the millions of dollars of mental health damages it does.

Posted by Happy Thoughts on Apr 21 2008 9:12AM - The air intake doesn't have anything to do with cooling the engine. It brings cool air to the manifold to mix with gas in the engine. An unspecified amount (a bag) of pot is a felony? Looks to be another example of local police using the war on drugs laws to screw with someone.

Posted by only on Apr 21 2008 10:00AM - i cant believe they stall even care about pot.. sad times

Posted by expositor on Apr 24 2008 7:29PM - Common sense would say, in the trunk and under the spare tire would be a far better stowage location for contraband.

MENTAL HEALTH DAMAGES? WHERE ARE YOU GETTING YOUR INFORMATION JOHN? ARE YOU SAYING A PUFF OF WEED MAKES YOU GO CRAZY? OR WHAT?

Posted by hugo on Apr 27 2008 9:51AM - i think it would be only right to decriminalize in the home, but to be on the road using it is as dangerous as the typical drunken driver.

Posted by f_16falcon on Apr 27 2008 6:58PM - I said it once, I'll say it again. I've never known a peron on meth who HASN'T used weed before they tried meth. Simple as that. Though I don't argue the fact that alcohol is probably a worse drug, weed is still mind-altering and should only be restricted for medicinal purposes. Weed isn't the same weed of the 60s and 70s. Stuff nowadays can be laced w/PCP and other drugs. And there is no way to test for it before you smoke it. Can you honestly say that you've never done any hard drugs... no way to tell.

Posted by expositor on Apr 28 2008 12:52AM - yeah, right, like someone is goining to include "free extras" in your quarter ounce. PCP hasn't been around NoDak for years. Even if it were, your average pot pal will say "No, thank you!". And I'll also wager that pot smokers who also consume meth would be about 7.52%, based on my personal observation.

Posted by f_16falcon on Apr 28 2008 1:00AM - You're right... not all pot smokers are meth heads. But all meth heads I know are/were pot smokers before meth. 100%. I think you are missing the argument.

And it has been confirmed that recent samples of BC bud were found to have traces of PCP... I'm trying to find the online DEA report about that right now. (BTW, BC bud is much more common in NoDak than the Mexican ditchweed).

Have you ever seen the sample stations at a supermarket? Do you know why they do that? To get you to buy their product. Drug dealers are the same way. If some pot is more "potent" than other (ex PCP lace), it makes it a product of choice. Its simple marketing.

Dangerous as the typical drunken driver? Where did you gain this knowledge? Lol!

So the supermarkets are lacing their products nowdays?

Think of the children!!

The terrorists have won.

Posted by f_16falcon on Apr 29 2008 5:26PM - Damn Odin, stupid still finds its way onto the boards. Welcome!

Did you not actually *read* my post and/or attend high school? I was using an "association" to compare. Where does it say supermarkets are lacing their product? I'm guessing you got into a bag of bad hooch if you ask me.

And yes Odin, if you are under the influence of MJ, you will fail the field tests just as bad as if you are under the influence of alcohol. It's simply harder for cops to detect. Therefore, less arrests.

Posted by hugo on May 5 2008 7:34PM - odin are you a real north dakota alcoholic and drunk driver, i think so. i stated decriminalized at home. you ever see what real mexican tequila or maybe backwoods Kentucky whiskeys can do when our north dakotans had a few too many. i'm sure you have, get real odin the anti-marijuana effort has you convinced, and closed-minded.

In order to answer your first question, I would first have to know what your definition of what a "real north dakota alcoholic and drunk driver" is. Nice assumption btw.

Yes, I read and understood when you stated that you believe in decriminalization at home and I don't disagree with you there, but I just don't buy it , from my understanding, when you state that someone under the influence of MJ is just as dangerous as a drunk driver out on the road. IMO the drunk driver is by far the more dangerous of the two. It would be appreciated if you could provide a link with statistics backing your view.

Keepin' it "real" bro!

G'day.
