Obama says he supports civil unionsAug 16 2008 7:44PM
Associated Press By CHARLES BABINGTON Associated Press Writer LAKE FOREST, Calif. (AP) Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has reaffirmed his stance that marriage is "the union between a man and a woman," although he supports civil unions for gay partners. Obama said Saturday he would not support a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage because the issue is one for state governments to handle. He said gay partners should be given rights such as visiting one another in hospitals. He made the comments as the first guest in a two-hour forum on faith hosted by the minister Rick Warren at his megachurch in Orange County, Calif. Republican John McCain was scheduled to speak with Warren for the second hour, after shaking hands with Obama during the switch. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) Look at all the people that worked and payed in Social Security. If gay marriage is law, will this allow the gay marriage partner to draw social security benefits from the other partner.
This will bankrupt social security. Will pensions have to give the gay marriage partner equal status for benefits?? Will this increase the chance of pension programs going broke for giving benefits to those not being intended for??
Look at all the people that did manual labor and only have Social Security to finance whatever retirement they will ever have. Making gay marriage equal to traditional marriage will result in disorder in the retirement systems.
It is easy to tear something apart when you did not build it!
I'm as straight as an arrow, but I also understand that human beings need to be treated with understanding, no matter if they share the same views as us or not. If a partner wants to visit the other in the emergency room/hospital, I think it's out of human nature just to let them. It's American. And, though you probably would never admit it "Proud Veteran", its what you fought for... for people to think and do as they please, even if its something we dont agree with.
So bottom line, SS will be bankrupt without them on the rolls either way. Get use to it.
