Proposed logging project advancesNov 10 2008 11:54AM
Associated Press HELENA, Mont. (AP) State wildlife officials propose removing insect-damaged trees from the Mount Haggin area south of Anaconda. Money from sale of the timber, perhaps several hundred thousand dollars, would be used to improve habitat in the state-owned Mount Haggin Wildlife Management Area. A consultant hired by the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks identified about 700 acres for logging. State officials say the timber money would help fund shrub and forest improvements beneficial to wildlife such as Moose, deer and elk. State wildlife commissioners have supported the proposal. Preparation of an environmental assessment is among steps that must precede a final decision. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) APNP 11-10-08 1151CST |
