State helps fund Yellowstone ecosystem projectNov 12 2008 11:19AM
Associated Press Idaho FALLS, Idaho (AP) State and federal agencies are working with a national conservation group to pool their resources and help manage large carnivores in the greater Yellowstone ecosystem. The Idaho Department of Fish and Game, the U.S. Forest Service and the New York-based Wildlife Conservation Society are funding the full-time work of a wildlife biologist in the ecosystem. Biologist Bryan Aber will work to reduce conflicts between humans and species of large carnivores in the ecosystem, which includes wolves, grizzly bears and mountain lions. Aber will also attempt to expand on what is scientifically known about these animals. The ecosystem covers a region about the size of West Virginia and includes portions of Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks. It also includes parts of Idaho, Wyoming and Montana.
