high-school Dagny Wins BigDec 8 2008 8:20PM
KXMCTV Minot Dagny more than turned some heads by picking up 4 gold medals in the 18 and under age group and 3 golds and 1 silver in the over 18 category including 3 meet records and 1 American record. The American record came in the 400 IM as Knutson took 14 and a half seconds off of her time when the day began to break a record set by Olympian Katie Hoff just a year earlier. (Dagny Knutson, American Record Holder) "On my freestyle leg, my last leg of the race, when I would breathe I would see the crowd cheering and stuff so it so it was like oh I must be on pace for something good so when I touched and they announced it it was a big relief. An American record I thought maybe towards the end of my career or maybe sometime in college and I was older and had more experience but now is o.k. to do it too. I guess it just makes things look better for the future." (Kathy Aspaas, Dagny's coach) "I'm just thinking, oh my goodness, oh my goodness. It's such a wonderful feeling to know that somebody that puts in that much work you really can achieve those goals and those dreams can come true." Dagny also picked up the meet's performance award which is the equivalent of the meet MVP and both her and her coach now will head to the Junior Pan Pacific games in January. (Aspaas) "I've been asked to be a part of the coaching staff and just a whole lot of opportunities have opened itself up to both Dagny and myself and USA swimming is just whatever we can do to help you and so we are just gonna try and utilize those resources best we can to learn more about training and learn more about competing and they're impressed with how we're doing so far. " The Pan Pacific games will be held in Guam and run from January 3rd to January 13th.
