Washburn Trail ProjectJun 22 2009 7:03PM
KXMBTV Bismarck Getting around Washburn is getting easier. A 325-thousand dollar grant is connecting this dirt path to an existing paved trail. The grant will help pay for another 2 miles of paved trail plus a new tunnel restoration that will connect the northeast side of the city to the west side where the school is located. Making it much safer for both adults and kids. (Dave Thompson / Toman Engineering) "We will be going up 9th street going across on 4th Ave, until we hit Hwy 83 and then proceeding along northward along Hwy 83 until we hit the Interpetive Center." Thompson says the addition will be similar to the existing trail with some benches, garbage cans and signs included along the way. (Milissa Price / The trail that is used is very popular. It is used all the time. And to continue it, it is just going to loop the city. So it will be one continuous trail throughout the city. Otherwise it went about 1/2 way through the city and then stopped." Thompson says construction will start next summer and should be completed by September 2010.
