KXMBTV Bismarck He will be in Bismarck and Dickinson discussing his new book about Abraham Lincoln. McGovern served as a WWII bomber pilot. He went into politics and seved in the U.S. Senate representing South Dakota. It was in 1972, that he was named the Democratic nominee for president. (Rick Collin/State Historic Society ND) "He brings all this experience to the table as he puts together this biography on who he calls the greatest President, Abraham Lincoln and its a remarkable biography." Collin says McGovern incorporates some of Lincoln's achievements that are sometimes overlooked. (Rick Collin/State Historic Society ND) "The signing of the legislation creating the U.S. Department of Agriculture also happened during Lincoln's time. The Morrell Land Grant which created what we know now as our state university system and created North Dakota State University among other institutions. All that happened during Lincoln's Presidency and Mcgovern does a very nice job laying that out in his biography." McGovern will be at Dickinson State University on September 8th and will be at the North Dakota Heritage Center on September 9th.
