Legislators discuss giving an incentive to couples who go to counseling before saying "I do."


Couples who complete a four hour pre-marital class could get a twenty-five dollar reduction on their marriage license fee.

Pastor Keith Ritchie has classes for couples wanting to get married.

He says the bill is needed to show that our state values marriage.

(Rev. Keith Ritchie / Cornerstone Church) "The ones that do pre-marital counseling have less problems, they have a better understanding of what they're going into. Our society has changed in the last years, it's a consumer society where they say if it doesn't work we'll throw it away and get a new one. Marriage isn't looked at the way it used to be."
