AF Secretary Visits MAFBSep 14 2007 7:01PM
KXMBTV Bismarck Michael Wynne, the Secretary of the Air Force, came to the base for a personal look at how nuclear weapons are stored, protected, and handled. His visit comes two weeks after a B-52 bomber loaded with six nuclear warheads was flown from Minot to Barksdale Air Force Base. The bombs were not supposed to have been on the bomber and the incident sparked an investigation both on the incident itself, and on how nuclear weapons are handled. The Pentagon has never commented on whether there were nuclear weapons on the flight. Meanwhile, this was also the day that Air Combat Command halted all air operations to conduct an investigation into the handling of nuclear weapons. Air Force officials would not allow the media any access to Secretary Wynne or to the base during his visit.
