Transportation BillApr 30 2009 12:57PM
KXMBTV Bismarck Good Afternoon, I'm Sarah Gustin... The North Dakota legislature has pased a $1.3 Billion dollar transportation budget. It's a 30% increase from current spending. The bill also includes $176 million dollar in federal stimulus money. The bill will go along way for regular highway projects. But the main part of the bill is emergency aid to help cities, counties and townships fix roads damaged by flooding and heavy snow. The bill also provides help for paying snow removal costs. (Rep. Kerzman) "I can't express the dire need that's out there. You can't believe the devestation that this winter and spring has caused. Our counties were strapped, they spent their emergency funds on just snow removal and then coming up and basically two floods run through our area we still have people who are stranded." The senate passed the bill last night, the house passed it this morning. It now goes to the Governor. The bill has an emergency clause which means the money will go out soon...
