KXMBTV Bismarck But there are still many questions. We went to the Burleigh County H1N1 Flu Clinic to see what people are asking and then took those questions to the Health Department to get the answers. (Dene Hosie) Are you doing your best to get the education out about the vaccine and making sure that everyone is trying to get it?" (Kirby Krueger/ ND Dept. of Health) "www.ndflu.com we have information available. CDC.gov has information available. we have been issuing press releases on a weekly basis on what is coming into the state as far as vaccine. we have developed several question and answer fact sheets regarding vaccine safety and vaccine use." (Emily Lenoir) Cause i go to school at United tribes here in Bismarck and i was talking to a lady this morning and she is not sure if she wants to get my daughter the vaccine or not and because she wasnt sure if you get the vaccine are you more susceptible to get it or not (Kirby Krueger/ ND Dept. of Health) "The whole idea behind the vaccines is that they do protect against the infection that they are intended to protect against. So for H1N1 vaccine that is going to protect against H1N1." (Molly Sander/ ND Dept. of Health) "When you are vaccinated it can take you know ten days to two weeks for the vaccine to protect you so some people may get sick in those two weeks and think it is from the vaccine but really it is most likely just a coincidence or they actually were infected prior to the vaccination and that is why the vaccine was not effective right away." (Kayla Grinsteinner) Flu season comes once a year we all know it comes why cant we start vaccinating on September first before flu season actually comes so everyone is vaccinated before the flu season and everyone is not in a rush to get vaccinated (Molly Sander/ ND Dept. of Health) "The world health organization gets together they look at what is going on in the southern hemisphere where it is winter and they actually have their influenza season in the opposite time than the northern hemisphere and then based on what is going on in the southern hemisphere they then make a determination of which strains to put in the flu vaccine and then it has to be produced and then it has to be distributed so it is a really long process." (Linda Robinson) "Why cant people who have immune deficient disorders get their shots today because they are included on the list of high priority candidates for the shot." ((Molly Sander/ ND Dept. of Health) "And so right now the North Dakota Department of Health is only recommending pregnant women, children and healthcare workers and then now we are just starting to recommend that care givers or contacts less than six months old be vaccinated and that is because we dont have enough vaccine. Ideally we would like everyone to be vaccinated and eventually we will get people with chronic health conditions and it is very important that they do get vaccinated but right now we just dont have enough vaccine to do that adult population." (Donna Poling) I guess I am just wondering why it is not possible for parents of younger children even if it is just the infants since it seems there is a lot of children dying from it you know they seem to be the at risk group why cant we get the shots (Kirby Krueger/ ND Dept. of Health) "We have expanded those priority groups that will receive the vaccine to include the parents and the siblings of those young babies that cannot be vaccinated so less than six months of age so that will be happening and as more vaccine becomes available we wills tart expanding or opening up those priority categories even more so more people can get vaccinated it is just a matter of how the vaccine is coming into the state at this time and the amounts we are getting on a weekly basis."
