Romance Evolution - Part 1Feb 10 2010 7:01PM
KXMBTV Bismarck Reporter Amber Schatz asks a panel of students and teachers to open up on the evolution of dating. (BEARI LOVE YOU) It's the month where lovers are showered with affection and gifts (SINGING CARD) But what is romance? (MICHAEL GILBERTSON) 48:08 "My idea of romance means showing your significant other how you care about them just by doing little things." (KIRSTIE DIENERT) 59:40 "Romance is definitely something out of the ordinary, I think of someone doing something special for someone they really care about." (TANA WAGNER) 54:34 "For me it's all about the little things, like that don't necessarily cost money or take time, but it's just kind of a quick hello, or a quick, thinking of you, I think a lot of times carry a lot of weight in relationships." (SETH FARSTVEET) 3:53 "Caring about somebody, going out of your way to be nice to somebody, somebody you care about than more than the average person." True love stories can affect every generation.. (GILBERTSON) 49:26 "That's the thing I remember most about seeing my grandparents is they were never away from each other, ever." (WAGNER) 56:19 "My grandparents worked basic day jobs and spent a lot of time building relationships one on one, doing things together, cooking together, creating things together, just kind of it was more of a unit, today we live in a pretty independent society." (DIENERT) :30 "When they were sophomores in high school, and they stayed with each other, their whole entire life." (FARSTVEET) 4:21 "They would go to Dances and stuff, we don't do anymore, if they would talk on the phone they had to have certain times when they could, otherwise they'd get in trouble." Something they wouldn't have to worry about with cell phones... or the internet But has technology been a good or bad thing for the younger generation, when it comes to love? (GILBERTSON) 51:07 "If the significant other is serving overseas, that helps, helps a lot from being able to keep in contact DIENERT) 1:23 "I know my friends definitely will be like, I met this guy on myspace and he lives here and he's close by, it definitely changes the long distance thing." (WAGNER) 55:30 "To reveal your emotions instead of writing it down, it's a lot of quick texting or talking about it on facebook, less person to person interaction, which kind of goes with society because we're so busy they're probably isn't as much person to person time as there used to be, but makes it a little less personal I guess." (FARSTVEET) 5:50 "Either asking someone out or breaking up with somebody through text or email is kind of I don't think it's as special as it could be, especially if you break up over text, it's kind of a slap in the face." So while technology has its ups and downs.. Romantic gestures are still being made right 51:49 "I got in her car and left a note and hershey kisses on the dashboard, and stuff, it doesn't happen very often but when it does happen, it's something big." 53:50 "He just took me out there and we were hanging out and talking, and before I knew it he went behind me to get a blanket, it was cold out, and he came back with a ring, and so he was down on one knee, and he asked me to marry him." Amber Schatz, KX News. Tonight at ten... Reporter Amber Schatz visits with a generation who NEVER broke up with someone over a text... or changed their status on facebook... on what romance means to them.
