Finalist for Dickinson State presidency drops out

Bismarck, N.D. (AP) One of the three finalists for the presidency of Dickinson State University has dropped out.

Joseph Bascaus (pronounced BAHS'-quahs) is a former president of Medaille (meh-DY) College in Buffalo, New York.

Bascaus sent an e-mail to North Dakota university system chancellor William Goetz on Tuesday to withdraw as a candidate, citing "personal and professional reasons." The other finalists are Bruce Speck, a provost and vice president of Austin Peay State University in Tennessee, and Richard McCallum, vice president for academic affairs at Missouri Southern State University.

North Dakota's Board of Higher education is meeting in Dickinson on Wednesday to interview the finalists.
