The media is just one industry that doesn't get the day off.

But we wanted to see who else is hard at work on Labor Day.

Amber Schatz reports.

While thousands of vacationers around the country are packing up after a 3 day weekend of camping, boating, and basically being labor-free... Another select group is hard at it...

(Brian Guderjahn/Wilton Farmers Union Elevator) "Labor Day typically isn't a holiday from farming sector."


In the grain industry for 30 plus years... Brian says working on weekends and holidays in this line of business just comes with the territory.

(Guderjahn) "We usually have a harvest break at this time, but being three weeks behind normal, everybody's out working." (Guderjahn) "Most activity this morning is from guys that harvested yesterday and bringing product into elevator now this afternoon will be out in fields.

From farming to constructing..

Manual labor workers here say they couldn't afford to take the day off.

(Ryan Dietrich/Creative Construction) "It doesn't bother me at all, I like to get the hours in."


And they are... It's just like any other Monday for a lot of workers...

"Thank you very much, have a good day."


This Wilton gas station is pumping out customer after customer..

both workers... and non-workers.

(Jim Mertz/C-Store Manager) "It's been very busy with all the traffic of people coming home from camping..

"All the harvesters are being out already this morning, being out on combine and fueling up and getting ready."


And of all the people who work hard on Labor Day... who does more, than a new mom?

(Leah Swenson/New mom) "I gave birth at 4 in the morning, I was really tired, it was intense, lots of pain."


In labor for at least six hours... this family says it's been a lot of hard work today... But... it's been well worth it to meet baby Thor Junior... on this "supposed" day of rest.
