Posted by cmsquare on Sep 14 2009 11:42PM - Bats have been known to use closed patio umbrellas as daytime roosts, thinking that they have found a safe spot to sleep after eating thousands of mosquitoes around the yard all night. Apparently they also use grill covers on occasion as well, and they were undoubtedly more frightened by this encounter than the homeowner. It is good that she sought prompt medical advice after the incident, but the claim that 24 people die per year of bat bites and rabies in the US is incorrect and your reporters should be more careful to give accurate information on such important subjects.

Posted by evidtech9 on Sep 18 2009 12:07AM - I feel sorry for those frightened confused bats who will now bear the brunt of people's ignorance due to the slant of this story. If the woman in this story doesn't want to deal with wildlife, then move to the city where it's not as prevalant.
