Dead Black Bear Discovered

A black bear has been foUND dead along Interstate 94 in southwest North Dakota.

Game and Fish officials say it is likely the same bear that was spotted in Oliver County last week.

On Monday, Luke Simons and his wife Aliesha were driving from Bismarck to Mandan when they spotted the bear. Simons says that the bear appeared to have been hit by a semi.

He and his wife took the bear carcass to their ranch and then reported it to Game and Fish.

The bear has been turned in for inspection.

(Roger Rostvet, ND Game & Fish Deputy Director) "We've had a number of bears get hit and roadkilled in the last number of years. Most of them ended up like the last one went to UND's Biology department to study skin. This individual wants it and we'll check around and see if there is someone having a compelling need for it. If there is no institution that needs it then we will consider giving it to him."

Rostvet says the law allows you to kill a bear if it is causing destruction, but only with permission from the Game and Fish Department. watch the video | save this article / add to your favorites list
