Associated Press Fargo, N.D. (AP) After learning that the Red River could see a crest of up to 43 feet, some Fargo residents became less confident that they could hold off the water. But Mayor Dennis Walaker continued to rally residents and volunteers. He says the city doesn't want to give up yet. He says if Fargo residents go down, they'll go down swinging. FARGO, N.D. (AP) Residents in one Fargo neighborhood are being forced to flee their homes, while residents in some areas of Moorhead, Minn., are also being urged to leave. The evacuation in Fargo was prompted by cracks in an earthen dike. Fargo and Moorhead are on high alert after forecasters said Thursday the Red River could crest higher than predicted at a record 43 feet. ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) A House energy committee voted 9-12 against a bill that would have lifted Minnesota's current ban on new nuclear power plants. Supporters of lifting the ban said nuclear should be a part of a discussion of the state's future energy needs. But opponents said the problem of nuclear waste still hasn't been resolved and that the state should focus on renewable energy. ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) The state Department of Agriculture says lab tests found the industrial chemical melamine in some samples of Fortuna brand sugar crackers. The ag department says anyone who bought the crackers should throw them away. The melamine was found in products collected from Dragon Star grocery store in St. Paul.
