Netherton Performs, Is InductedSep 30 2009 7:23PM
KXMCTV Minot Tom Netherton became famous performing on the Lawrence Welk Show. He got that job thanks in part to Harold Schafer - the North Dakotan who developed Medora into a major tourist attraction. Harold and Sheila SHY-la Schafer heard Netherton perform at Medora and introduced him to Lawrence Welk and that ignited his career. This week, Netherton is performing twice daily on stage in Copenhagen Hall. He says it's a great honor to be chose as an indcutee into the Scandinavian-American Hall of Fame. (Tom Netherton, Hall of Fame Inductee) "It was very special. I'm mostly Danish so you celebrating that heritage is very special for me. The Scandinavian people represent an awful lot of what America stands for." Here's the lineup of inductees for the Hall of Fame this year - they'll receive their honors tonight at the annual Scandinavian-American Hall of Fame banquet at the Grand International in Minot. Along with Netherton, Karl Rove, Congressman Earl Pomeroy, and Minot businessman Al Larson will be inducted. In addition, Olav Thon will receive the Humanitarian Award for his philanthopic efforts in Norway and around the world.
