I would like to hear from those who have had Lapband surgery and how the whole thing went for them. I weigh 344 pounds and need to do something and can't seem to lose it on my own. Let me hear from you. Thanks. Have a great day.

I too was banded! You can read my testimony at www.jessie-kuri.com I always tell people finding the money was the hardest part, but so worth it! I wouldn't change it for the world. My surgery was done by Dr. Kuri who has now performed over 4000 surgeries. Trust me-you want it done right the first time! There are alot of stories out there and I deal with them day in and day out. The best thing for anyone is to surround yourself with positive Lap Band support and use your resources. I will be more than happy to help answer your questions or/and put your fear to rest.
If you want to meet in person for coffee and Lap band chat Nov. 29th,2009, contact me at www.jessie-kuri
Best of luck to you! Jessie

First of all anything you do to lose weight will not work long term unless you change your eating habits. Yes this will make you lose weight, but without a drastic change in eating habits ther weight will return! Just as with the gastric bypass, it works but unless you quit eating so much and get more exercise the weight will return.
I had a friend who had lapband and it went horribly wrong, infection, severe pain, nearly died before the doctors finally took it back out. 2 years later they are not still fully healed.

I watched a program on this on tv some time ago and they said the majority of people who have this surgery do lose weight, but then put most of it back on again, plus some extra. My neighbor had the surgery and was so sick all the time, with vomiting, etc... she was in the hospital twice for dehydration and then they decided they had to reverse the surgery. She fine now, but has gained back what she lost, but then she also eats fast food and in restaurants several nights a week. That will guarantee weight gain. Like MMM said, it's a life style change that can be done slowly and made permanent. Don't buy anything in paper or cardboard, and only shop on the outside aisles of the grocery store...that will put in the fresh food areas, meat, vegy's, fruits, etc..
I'm sure there are many success stories, and I wish you nothing but the best!

As I posted earlier, I have had a band for over 3 yrs. I would do it again in a heart beat. If I could have had the self control to do all the things you talked about Marilyn, I would not have needed the help. It is a life style change no doubt but I needed the band to help me make that choice. I lost 55 lbs. and then had to have my fill removed because of reflux which I had before. Now I pretty much maintain my loss and wish it was another 50. I am a compulsive eater and I seem to not be able to control the snacking impulses. I do good for hours and then all of a sudden it is crazy. In my opinion, the band is a much less invasive then bypass and helped me get my life on track to the point I can once again exercise and live a normal life. It is safe (all procedures have risk) and if worked properly it worked well.

Happy Friday! MMM I 100% agree you; will not lose weight soley depending on the lap band. I'll use the car as an example. When you buy a car. Do you drive it home and hope and pray someone tells you what to do next? OR do you ask??? Getting the band is like getting a new car, you've got to take care of it. Maintenance is involved. When your car acts up do you park it and just walk to work OR do you call and schedule an appointment? See this is simple folks. When getting the lap band you will be handed a post op set of instructions. Follow them to a 'T' and you'll be on your way to a healthy healing phase. Once you are past the first 6 weeks you'll want to take your band for a test ride. Take the corners slowly and be aware of your surroundings. Listen to your body. You should get a signal when you are full. If you are eating more than 1.5 cups of food you need to go see your doctors. Occasionally you'll want to stop in and service your car (band) and when you hit a bump in the road or an accident call someone. There is no excuse for becoming dehydrated! If you start your day with a plan such as buying a bottle with the ounces labeled on the side. Tell yourself, "I will drink 3 of those today" and then apply yourself. That car isn't moving unless you put the key in the ignition! Someday I will write an article completely about reflux and what to do next. But folks - - puking daily, having nightly reflux, getting dehydrated, even not loosing weight....is not acceptable. Something is wrong and you must go see your doc. Trust me for the amount of $$$$ USA docs are charging you should be getting A+ care. Are you?? Has your doctor or his/her team contacted you since surgery? Ask me someday what my job consists of and I'll tell you the buck doesn't stop when you wake up from surgery. See ya soon in Bismarck! Jessie

I would love to hear about the reflux issue and your answer. I have the problem. As I said earlier, I have a band about 3 yrs now and love it. I have to be careful what, how fast, and the time I eat because of the reflux. In fact I have very little fill in my band cause of the reflux. I need to go see the doc that did my band. I have been waiting to see him because I hate to make a bill again. I just got it paid off and I have not used my insurance this year so I still have the deductable to pay so I thought I would wait till next year.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

There is no excuse for becoming dehydrated!
If you can't stop vomiting and can't keep anything down, then yes....that is a reason for dehydration.
