I LOVE The NY YANKEES!!!
Posted On: Jun 5 2009 1:30PM

I know most of you already hate me.  The other day I was in Burger King with my friend having coffee. There were two good looking business men sitting next to us, and I hear the word Yankees so I had to listen.  They were talking about getting tickets to see the Yankees beat the Twins next month in Minnesota.  I had to say it; (because I talk to everyone, who says the word Yankees) I love the Yankees also.  Of course I got shot down, they said they were not really in love with the Yankees, but if they are going to see a baseball game in Minnesota it had to be against a good team.

So tell me, since you all use fake names anyway. Do you love or hate the Yankees? BTW the Yankees are tied for first place with the silly Red Sox.

Today for the American league the Yankees are tied for first place with the Texas Rangers.  How did that happen?

The Lost Angels  or LA Angels are in first Place National League with 38 wins and 19 losses. They are a great ball club also with the best Coaches ever. I was so mad when the Yankees let both of them Joe Torre and Don Mattingly go.  I still love the Yankees.

My dad's from Boston. The first baseball games I remember watching were CIncy vs. Boston in the '75 World Series.

For the AL, the Red Sox are my team.  I did live in NYC for a bit and caught a bunch of flak for my Beantown loyalty.

Ultimately though, I am a SD Padres fan.

  • My Grandfather was a Sox Fan (b. 1921)

  • My Dad was a  Sox Fan

  • I am a Padres Fan

Both my grandfather and father passed away before the Sox broke through in 2004. The Padres have never won.

Therefore, my family is working on 3 generations (88 years) of baseball futility.

My family at home is all Yankees fans.  My sister has to be the strange one and likes the Mets.  She is the only one I ever met that likes the Mets (Only kidding).  I love to watch the Yankees play the Red Sox whenever I can. I have MLB cable channels, so I am always watching baseball.

In the fall we have the NFL channels.  My husband is from Dallas, so nothing can happen when they are on.  Every Thanksgiving since we have been married 25 years, Dallas Cowboys and Turkey.  I am not much for Football.

What other All Stars do you like in Baseball? Or anyone likes in Baseball?

The only Yankee I like is DJeter.  His defensive play against the Oakland A's a few years back is one of the great plays I have seen in my life.  Actually, I do like Mark Teixiera....but I hate the fact he wears the pinstripes.

I don't like ARod.  I enjoy watching Minnesota's Joe Mauer. Obviously, Albert Pujols has a chance to be one of the all-time greats.

Theresa,

You have to admit that the new Yankee Stadium is a joke of a park.....even worse than Coors Field. Every day I turn on ESPN, there is an upper-deck shot into the right field bleachers......

I don't know what they can do, but they need to do something about right field. Or something about the wind that is blowing baseballs out of the stadium if you can just pop it up in the air.

OK, I see it like this.  The Yankees for as long as I remember have had the highest payroll in the majors.  Every year they recruit the cream of the crop free agents.  They keep spending the money and it comes at the expense of the small market teams around the league.  These lower teams train and teach these players all the fundamentals to make these players good.  Then when their contract is almost up, the teams have to make a choice whether to try to trade them and get some prospects or take the chance on being able to re-sign them.  Either way the Yankees are right there with their checkbook open drooling at the prospect of landing these players.

This being said, I absolutely hate the Yankees!  I think they are the primary reason the league should have a salary cap, to make all teams equal.  Just look at the Pirates who the other day traded their all star player away for more prospects.  I loved last season, with the Tampa Bay winning that division and the high and mighty Yankees finishing out of the playoffs.  Heres a toast to the underdog!

I am a lifelong Twins fan, and that being said I have seen my share of talent leave my team.  I would like nothing more than to watch the Twins sweep the high and mighty "Spankees" right out of the dome!

Steinbrenner has, for years, showed baseball what COULD be done..While he's done some really reprehensible things, like heading up a conspiracy among the owners, to kill free agency..(he failed, and baseball had to pay millions to the free agents who were not selected) Over all, like Charlie Finley, he's been good for baseball.
I am neither a Yankee fan, nor a Yankee hater. I'm a baseball fan, and the Yanks have provided great baseball over the years.
There's a wonderful Biography of Joe D, written by Richard..I've forgotten his last name, but he was a school friend of one of my brothers....Its the definitive Joe D book..I'll ask my brother what his last name is..

Al -Yankees tied for first place with the Texas Rangers, both teams have 33 wins and 23 losses.   I  think Dug Mathis is one of the greatest pitchers ever.  The Rangers are so lucky to have him.

NL- the Angels way out in front with 39 wins and 20 losses.  They are a great team to watch.

I know everyone hates the Yankees, but if they are on TV in Best Buy or some where everyone stops to watch. Keep telling me why you hate the Yankees.

The book is By Richard Ben Cramer.  It is one of the best books I have ever read. Has anyone ever seen the YouTube of  Jo DiMaggio.  What a great player he was.  There has been a Marlyn Monroe story that I have read that make him seem like such a wonderful man.  I just love him.

Right...that's his name. Mike, my youngest brother, and he, were school friends. I hardly knew him.

Yesterday, Nick Swisher...son of former Dodger catcher Steve Swisher, hit the 100th home run (in 28 games) at the new Yankee stadium.
The stadium itself, is another monument to the Steinbrenner way of thinking;
It's SOOOO over the top, that those luxury seats might as well not be there.
So few can afford them, that they'll never fill them.
Regardless of payroll, the Yanks can't win every year, and they don't expect to, but that payroll is part of the Yank aura..and win or lose, people come to see the highest payroll in baseball history, play ball..it's as much a public relations gambit as it is to win a pennant.
Rather than spend the money advertising, spend it on payroll, and let the payroll do the advertising...It works..the Yanks have won more pennants than anyone else.

Okay youz guize (Brooklyn phonics) my Yankees lost the last two games to the Red Socks.  Oh the pain, I have today! The Yankees are in second place now to Boston but there is still tons of time.

How about those Angels they are Holy Mackerel. They are unstoppable 40 wins 21 losses.

I am spending the day crying in my Yankees blanket.
