| ESPN's crusade to ruin Tom Cable |
|
Posted On: Nov 1 2009 10:00AM
I had to say something about this story in the news this morning on ESPN. For those of you who are unaware of this story, it has been unfolding since late August, when an assistant coach accused Coach Cable of breaking his jaw. This matter was investigated by the police, and no charges were filed. Should be the end of the story, right? No! Apparently not. Today ESPN aired a story which they tried to show a patern of abuse by Mr. Cable. They interviewed Mr. Cable's two ex-wives, and a girlfriend. My question is this, why are you trying to dig up dirt against this guy? I will never say that violence againt women is right, but this guy has already been investigated for these accusations and cleared of them. If ESPN wants to pursue this, they should dig into each and every NFL employee, players, coaches,.........etc. They should talk about everyone's past. I can assure you that he isn't the only person involved with domestic violence. What ever happened to ESPN being a sports network? Now they are trying to be Dateline or 60 Minutes. And can someone tell me what the bad blood between ESPN's Chris Mortensen and the Oakland Raiders franchise? This guy likes digging up all sorts of stuff on this team.

The reason why Cable isn't off the hook is because the police have decided to look the other way on this one.
Just because the Napa, CA authorities (where the Oakland preseason practive facility is) doesn't want to ruffle the Raider organization does not mean he didn't do it. Have you read what Cable's "story" is?
Its laughable.
Also, there is a civil case that will likely be filed against Cable. So he isn't finished with his legal problems for a while. [Think about OJ being acquitted and then, later, losing the civil case].
I cannot see Cable's story passing muster once the wine-sipping 49er fan citizenry of Napa (I'm guessing the venue) get to hear it.

Locker room assaults rarely get prosecuted because it is one guy's word vs the other person's word. Don't forget his assistant got a broken jaw from someone. That is something you cannot deny. The fact that people are claiming things and ESPN is running with it is because they need to do something to restore the respect in the network after blowing the entire Favre saga, the Erin Andrews fiasco, and numerous blown or wrong stories.
Just because charges weren't brought doesn't mean there wasn't an assault. Remember the NFL is still investigating the incident and they don't need belief beyond a reasonable doubt to punish Cable.
