"'This votes demonstrates that Breckenridge citizens overwhelmingly believe that adults should not be punished for making the safer choice to use marijuana instead of alcohol,' said Sean McAllister, a Breckenridge attorney who proposed the ordinance,"

Now that is funny, considering the type of people who live in Breckenridge! Not your average John Doe's!

The smell of pot has always made me sick as a dog, and that's probably the only reason I never tried it.  If those people want it to be legalized and they vote to legalize it, I don't see where there should be any problem.  It definitely couldn't be any worse than alcohol or tobacco, for that matter, and they are both legal.

I have had a number of friends growing up in North Dakota.  More than my share of friends have died from drinking and driving.  Their lives were out of control and they affected themselves, family , and friends to people they did not even know,  long before and long after their deaths.

I do believe marijuana to be the wiser choise over alcohol and tobacco which have physical side effects,  compared to phycological dependency of pot.  As far as I am concerened I dont see the reason for jailing someone who makes a choice untill they have done something actually criminal instead of being straped and saddled into a law that absolutely makes no common scense .

As long as they are not on welfare or driving while high - none of my business.   However as a former resident of oregon I can tell you that alot of them will be driving while stoned, endangering  the citizens of the community.   With almost all good jobs requiring a pre employment drug screening and random urine analysis there after ( except president of the USA)  there will certainly be a bunch of potheads on the welfare dollar.

I'm not as afraid of someone who just smoked a joint driving a car as I am afraid of the drunk who just stumbled out of the bar.  I don't hear about many accidents being caused by pot smoking, but I sure do hear of a lot of them caused by drunken driving.

We need to keep them both off the streets.

French researchers studied all drivers involved in fatal car crashes over a two-year period and found 7% tested positive for marijuana, including nearly 3% who tested positive for a combination of marijuana and alcohol.

Although marijuana's share of fatal crashes is much lower than those attributed to alcohol, researchers say the results show that marijuana use, even in low doses, significantly increases the risk of fatal car accidents

That is funny cause you can smoke a haystack of pot and you only get so stoned and still drive the obstacle course.  Willy it is plain as the nose on your face you dont know what your talking about.  That is pure prehistoric thinking that went out way back there. The only bad thing they have found with pot is genetic effects.  Your children will be born with one big eye and the worst thing is they will be blind.  It does not impair ones driving.  If it did there would be a DWS ticket given out for driving  while stoned.  Get it that is old demagog thinking the kind that leaves in the 19 century.

What I am afraid of is there are still people like you out there endangering us all with that kind of thinking !

You must be smokin the old weed from the 19th century - the old mexi brown.   The weed of today is much stronger than the old stuff.   Like I said I have no problem with it if you smoke it and stay off the street and aren't collecting a welfare check.    It's all good until a car load of stoners blow a stop sign and run into a car with your family members in it.

I am sorry - did I touch a nerve?

DFW,  I tend to agree with you.   Stay off the streets, stay out of the surgury dept, stay out of the ****pit,  stay OFF WELFARE.

Wouldn't you think most pot smokers are do nothings that do sit home and collect a check... I think so.

What the heck does smoking pot have to do with being on welfare?  Are there any statistics that show that most people on welfare smoke pot?  Or that pot causes people to go on welfare?

My husband told me that about 90% of all of the military personel that served in Vietnam were smoking pot while they were over there.  I don't know how many of them kept it up after they returned, but did all of them end up on welfare when they got back?  Did 50% of them?

I don't think so.  Some of them might have been nuts when they came back, but it wasn't because of the pot they were smoking.

Its just old way of thinking.  Hideing a problem is never a good thing, people do not belong off the streets, that is where the shops are, where money is spent and earned,  Economics 101.  Not everyone who drinks belongs off the street ,there are people who can drink and handle better than others. Not all drinkers drink and drive or even cause an accident and I am sure there are those on drugs the same.  Not all people who drink are on welfare and not all on welfare people are drinkers.

I think we are thinking of that drug addict in the abandoned apt building with a mattress and nothing else.  Wasnt any mexican brown around, all we had was Tia and Cambodian Red.    Unless you were there at the time I  dont see how one would know if one is better or not.

I was on welfare one time in my life and I couldnt afford cigarettes let alone pot , so I think this may be a stigma.

I have seen people sell their food stamps for cash, and with that cash buy booze or cigs... Easy to do.....
Posted On: Nov 4 2009 12:13PM

Shop, what an evil corrupt mind ?  I wasnt on welfare long, but i gained 25 lbs back to my regular weight so was much appreciated at the time.  I want to reapply because I liked it.  But I never sold , guess i'd have had to sell the card they give you and I wouldnt have done that.

I was never aware; however, of aliens collecting checks from welfare.  This program must not be available for disabled Vets.  It certainly was never offered to me.  I dont understand it and not sure I want to know how much this country will do for an alien and snub an american or disabled american.
