| Another Reason Phony Soldiers Should Stay Out of the Military |
|
Posted On: Nov 7 2009 9:31AM
Here was ANOTHER phony soldier that only joined for the government teat he could suckle on, then was "mortified" that he was called to serve. So mortified that he "snapped".......what a cop-out phrase. Just think of what the vast left wing media hype if he would have committed suicide instead , of being so "mortified", he would have been the liberal's martyr, maybe he still is.
Mama, don't let your babies grow up to be phonies............

Jack maybe the United States is having a hard time getting people to enlist? Can't be to choosy who you take anymore. All the Republicans are protecting their babies keeping them from enlisting. They talk the talk but stumble when they walk. At least you wised up and listened to your own advice and stayed out....lol

There are more republicans in the military than democrats.
Military. Republicans hold a large majority in the armed services, with 57% of active military personnel and 66% of officers identified as Republican in 2003.[61]

so, neon, it's your philosophy to take them anyway, even if they have NO intention of "serving", just to fill the ranks, just to fill the quotas? Only joining to get what they can out of our government? These people are not being forced to join.............

No Jack I don't beleive in allowing phony soldiers into the military. I really don't understand why your first reaction is to worry about the media and how they'll portray this. I don't think anyone is going to condone what this guy did. I have seen soldiers snap, not to this extent, but in other ways. I would imagine it's not pleasant being a muslim in the armed forces now days. Anyways Jack alot of young men enlist in the military for the benefits first and do a great job of serving our country. You have to respect anyone who signs on the dotted line and gives up alot of their own freedoms so that you have yours. Free Willy I don't remember anyone asking me if I was a Republican or Democrat when I was serving.

Why bring the media into it? Because they, more often than not, bring their editorial bent to a story, and a liberal one at that.
Yes, I agree that a soldier does give up a lot. But their priority MUST be to SERVE the country, with the benefits being a distant second.......reversing those agendas IS what a phony soldier is all about................

We are a Conservative/Republican family and our record speaks for itself when it comes to serving our country. I don't buy that statement that Repubs encourage their kids not to serve. That couldn't be further from the truth.

Let me rephrase that then Marilyn....Rich people try to shield their children from serving. Jack when someone signs the dotted line...yes it is to serve their country in peace time and war time. But lets not forget that alot of soldiers sign up mainly for the college education benefits. Is there anything wrong with that? I think our military benefits from having soldiers that are college bound one day. You have to have some brains to operate alot the equipment the military has. You missed out if you never got the chance to serve. Soldiers always remember their years of service. People brag and boast about serving for their country. I don't see anyone boasting about being an accountant or selling insurance. Don't see to many insurance salesman burials. Don't see to many grandpas boasting to their grandchildren about how many accounts they loaned or how many policies they used to sell. You sound kinda bitter to me and a little disrespectful to people who did serve. You don't even have the slightest clue what someone goes through in the service even during peacetimes. You can sit and watch the military channel or the history channel or watch CNN during wartime but you still don't know. You never will. You will always be an observer an opinionated want a be. People like you and Fair will always talk a good game but have nothing of substance to back it up.

My younger sister Teresa enlisted. I think it was because she heard mom and dad talking about not having money for college. She was an A plus student and deserved college. She enlisted, went to Germany, hung out with some rough soldiers, got slipped a drug (or took it), then fell off a bridge (accident, sucide attempt) Who knows... was sent back to Walter Reed, broke both her ankles, and her wrist, and back... She is still somewhat crippled in her ankles. very painful. She is 45 now and still suffers.
Got a great education in the service, and served. Now has a fine good paying job.
There are many reasons people join.

A good friend of mine spent 31 years in the Marine Corps..If you called Central Casting and asked for a drill sgt, you'd get him. He spent 3 tours of duty in Viet Nam as a Sniper's spotter. He was a drill Sgt. at Paris Island for quite some time. He's absolutely sick about the kids they're allowing in the service today. He's all for giving a kid a chance to make something of himself, but nowadays, deadbeats and malcontents are allowed, in the service that would have been weeded out just a few years ago. Not by Religion, mind you..like some of the dimwits here have said, but the standards today, are not the standards of only a few years ago. So Jack has a point.

Of course, the right wing vermin's right knees jerk in unison, as they try to figure out a way to blame Obama for the lowering of the standards required to get into the military, but the standards were lowered during the previous administration to address the problem of the inability of the military to meet its quotas.

Neon, I hope that statements not true. Nobody should stand in the way of their child wanting to serve... it's their decision. Parents have to cut the cord and let 'em go.

My family didn't have alot of money either. Of course I was young when I joined like most enlistees. College money was a big factor. The movie Top Gun played a part. Glamorized the military alot. I wanted to get out of North Dakota and see the world. I joined in the 80's. The United States had been in peacetime for over a decade unless you consider Grenada and Panama. Going to war at that time didn't seem very likely. If it happened it happened was my thinking back then. I wasn't what you would call Gung Ho, but I always gave 100% and was considered a hard working soldier. I did have alot of Gung Ho squad leaders, who where sergeants. When Iraq invaded Kuwait and they needed a squad to go over there both of my squad leaders got out of going for trivial reasons. Yea they were afraid sh*tless. Remember now they had been in for over 10 years each and war by that time was the last thing on their mind. But it came and they showed their real colors. They stayed home and played Gung Ho while I shipped out. Lovely. I went over to Saudi Arabia with the second Army unit to arrive in Saudi by the end of the 2nd week of August 1990. I did my job and came home 9 months later. I got out of the Army after my 4 year term was over, which was not long after I got home. My 2 gung ho big talking squad leaders where still in the service, probably got military retirement benefits for talking smack their whole career, but backing out during wartime because they played their trump card that they had planned to use the whole time just in case they were actually called out to perform. I'm not a fan of someone who talks big and doesn't back it up. I see alot of Republicans as coming across like that. But I've always kind've admired George Bush sr. He made his decisions with thought. He could back up his talk. Junior and Cheney couldn't. Their talk was nothing but that...talk.

How does anyone in the military talk their way out of being deployed? From what I've heard from family members, you go when you have to go, end of story.
Rye, there you go again, calling names. Man that's gettin' old. I hate to say this sir, but is your vocabulary so limited that name calling is all you can come up with? Are you that bitter about the opposite party? Come on....
