Well, this is just an update...
We are coming up to Cando in a few months, most likely Feb or Mar, I was hoping someone could give me leads on housing. I have talked to several people and am considering a few houses but wouls like more options. I have put in my app at the hospital too. If there are any other places hiring around the town let me know. Thanks! Reply...
Well, Thank you all. I will look into the position they have available. I have never been to Cando, yet, but when we do get there we will call for a tour and come by the library.
I hear its been rather cold there this week. How is the wind? I can handle cold as long as the wind is not howling at 60+ mph all day that is what it does here. It seems to never stop. But its ok.
I just want someplace new. One of my husband's friends says he used to live in ND and he loved it, says the people are great.
Well, I will keep checking for updates in this forum. Reply...
Melinda,
One of the teachers just brought "this discussion" to the Library for me to read. I certainly agree with Proud Vet and Jessica. What they wrote isn't theory or just a wild opinion, but they are stable people who gave thought to what they wrote.
I was raised in the country near Cando, went here to school all 12 years, taught school in nearby communities, was away for 30 years, and am glad to be back to where you don't have to be a stranger long if you will reach out. It has been interesting to be in on a community project this year, sponsored by Horizons, the James J. Hill family, and see the newcomers blending with the oldtimers in wanting to keep Cando alive and welcome people like yourself.
There are a lot of things for the children to do ... here at the Library I see them and their parents dashing in for a book or video as they are off to some activity. I hear them talk about ball games, hockey, dance lessons, 4-H, Girl Scouts besides all the school activities.
Stop in at our Library (on Main Street) when you come to Cando again!!

Melinda After living all my life in or around Cando I can assure you it is a great place to live. This Saturday there is SANTA DAY going on. It starts with FREE ice skating at our ICE ARENA. Followed by a 2K walk run. Then there is FREE bowling at our 8 lane bowling alley with a stop from Santa. There is a SHOP HOP throughout the day with specials and prizes at many local businesses. If you are looking for something to do in Cando you can find it. Swimming, Movies, Golf, Dart Leagues, Bowling, Tennis, Park, Fitness Center, Dance Classes along with all the extra curricular activities our school has to offer. The Towner County Medical Center www.tcmedcenter.com has a job opening that might meet your needs. It is an office position. If you are interested in moving to Cando you should look into this. If you are interested in visiting Cando and would like a tour of the area please feel free to call. 701-968-3571 Thanks Jessica Knutson Reply...
Just about any place is cliqueish... LOL....I live in a town of about 700 right now and commute daily 45 miles to work. What is considered low pay? Over here I work as an Office Administrator at the State Pen. I am looking for something locally over there in an office setting or I could travel to Devils Lake and work.
Thank you for your input. If anyone knows of any businesses hiring around there let me know. Reply...
I agree with you there Fossilman. Reply...
Most of the smaller towns are better to live in,than the cities..........Even if you have to travel a bit to find work.I've never heard any harsh words about Cando................. Reply...

Here is what I know about Cando:
The Good: They have a friendly community, excellent school, excellent health care facilities and the town strives for the better. It also has excellent duck hunting and some affordable housing.
The Bad: Cando and the surrounding area have low wages for workers, it is close to Devils Lake so if you plan on having a business you will have competition and the some people are cliquish (do not want outsiders).
If you have or have lined up some decent paying employment, it would be an excellent place for finding affordable housing and a good school for the children. If you do not have any decent paying employment, you better think twice before moving there. Reply...
Why, whats your reason for not liking it? Reply...
Any where is BETTER than Cando....good grief! Reply...
I am so glad that he was convicted! My mom use to work with this creep for many years before she moved, and he is a creepy man. He tried getting her in major trouble just because he didn't like her. I agree with fossil on this one, but I guess I am biased against him and his family. Yeah, the creepiness runs in the family too; his brother was sentenced to life in prison for killing his girlfriend in Cando. If you want verification, look up the last name. I'm glad that James will not be working at the nursing home any longer and I can rest easy that the people I know who live there will be safe and far away from him. Reply...
The guy needs more than 15 years.........Should cut him too!!!!!!!! Reply...
