YOU'VE GOT TO LOVE THIS RANCHER'S OUTLOOK AND COMMON SENSE APPROACH TO LIFE......

While suturing up a cut on the hand of a 75 year old rancher, whose hand had been caught in the gate while working his cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to Obama, and his being our president.

The old rancher said, "Well, ya know, Obama is just a Post Turtle."
Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked, "What's a "Post Turtle?"

The old rancher said, "Well, when you're driving down a country road, and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a post turtle."
The old rancher saw the puzzled look on the doctor's face so he continued to explain

"You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, he doesn't know what to do while he's up there, he sure as heck ain't goin' anywhere, and you just wonder what kind of dumb ass put him up there in the first place."

I repeat:  your point being what??????  People make choices.  Once they cross the line and break laws seriously enough to end up in jail/prison, they lose the rights that the rest of us worked to maintain.   They have to regain those rights.

The article complains about prisoners being hired in an area of high unemployment.  Then, it goes on to say they are working in a hot toxic environment.  So, "punish" the unemployed  by forcing them into a hot toxic environment for temp work so they can lose their unemployment benefits.

Beach cleanup is a Sisyphean task. Shorelines cleaned during the day become newly soaked with oil and dispersant overnight, so crews shovel up the same beaches again and again. Workers wear protective chin-to-boot coveralls (made out of high-density polyethylene and manufactured by Dupont), taped to steel-toed boots covered in yellow plastic. They work twenty minutes on, forty minutes off, as per Occupational Safety and Health Administration safety rules. The limited physical schedule allows workers to recover from the blazing sun and the oppressive heat that builds up inside their impermeable suits.

During their breaks, workers unzip the coveralls for ventilation, drink ice water from gallon thermoses and sit under white fabric tents. They start at 6 AM, take a half-hour lunch and end the day at 6PM, adding up three to four hours of hard physical labor in twenty-minute increments. They are forbidden to speak to the public or the media by BP's now-notorious gag rule. At the end of the day, coveralls are stripped off and thrown in dumpsters, alongside oil-soaked booms and trash bags full of contaminated sand. The dumpsters are emptied into local HazMat landfills, free employees go home and the inmates are returned to work release centers.

Work release inmates are required to work for up to twelve hours a day, six days a week, sometimes averaging seventy-two hours per week. These are long hours for performing what may arguably be the most toxic job in America. Although the dangers of mixed oil and dispersant exposure are largely unknown, the chemicals in crude oil can damage every system in the body, as well as cell structures and DNA.

Inmates can't pick and choose their work assignments and they face considerable repercussions for rejecting any job, including loss of earned "good time." The warden of the Terrebonne Parish Work Release Center in Houma explains: "If they say no to a job, they get that time that was taken off their sentence put right back on, and get sent right back to the lockup they came out of." This means that work release inmates who would rather protect their health than participate in the non-stop toxic cleanup run the risk of staying in prison longer.

Prisoners are already subject to well-documented health care deprivations while incarcerated, and are unlikely to have health insurance after release. Work release positions are covered by Worker's Compensation insurance, but pursuing claims long after exposure could be a Kafkaesque task. Besides, there is currently no system for tracking the medical impact of oil and dispersant exposure in cleanup workers or affected communities.

"They're not getting paid, it's part of their sentence"

To learn how many of the 20,000 prisoners housed outside of state prisons are involved in spill-related labor, I called the DOC Public Relations officer, Pam LaBorde, who ultimately discouraged me from seeking such information. ("Frankly, I do not know where your story is going, but it does not sound positive," she said on our third phone call.)

Going to prison officials directly didn't help. The warden of a South Louisiana jail refused to discuss the matter, exclaiming, "You want me to lose my job?" A different warden, of a privately-owned center admitted, on condition of anonymity, that inmates from his facility had been employed in oil cleanup, but declined to answer further questions. Jefferson Parish President Steve Theriot and Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser, and Grand Isle Police Chief Euris DuBois declined interview requests.

I don't get why everyone is ragging/and praising the Volt, it was developed was planned to be put into production long before it was taken over. I didn't agree with the CEO being fired either. All the vehicles that are being produced and that are in the near future where from his management. GM was making good cars, no one was buying because they didn't have money, or they remember the GM from the 70's through the 90's.

Why hire inmates where there is like 20 percent real unemployment? That makes absolutely no sense other than the inmates will work much cheaper. Reply...

This will blow your mind and says alot about how secure our northern border is. We have a place on the Minnesota border called Northwest Angle. The Northwest Angle of Minnesota (affectionately called "The Angle" by Minnesotans and those who vacation there) is the most northern part of the United States. A small piece of the state juts about thirty miles north of the rest of Minnesota.

Unless you travel by boat across Lake of the Woods, you must enter Canada to get to The Angle driving through Baudette or Roseau, Minnesota up through Manitoba.

http://www.lakeofthewoodsmn.com/images/map05.jpg

As you can see, the only way to reach The Angle is either by boat which would take several hours or by driving across the border just north of Warroad, Minnesota and traveling about 60 miles where you will again cross the border into the United States.

"Upon entering the Northwest Angle by road, the traveler must enter the booth at Jim's corner and report to U.S. Customs via videophone. Before leaving the Northwest Angle by road, one must report to Canadian customs from the same booth." There are no humans at this entry point, no agents.

Yes, you come into the US at the point via the HONOR SYSTEM!

Halliburton is not a conservative company/corporation. It is a multi-nation business with it's own agenda, and yes they have had some very BAD ACCIDENTS, and they haven't even tried to explain, infact they got fined in Jan of 09, to the tune of 559 million for their Nigerian bribe scandal. Halliburton is definately not a clean corporation.

There are a lot of rumors circulating about this oil rig AND about the South Korean ship, most of the rumors are pointing to a "two man" sub of some sort.  I still am sitting on the side of "The eco-terrorists did it" when it comes to the oil rig - I haven't reached a conclusion about the South Korean ship.  If North Korea DID have something to do with it, how long will South Korea wait to react and what will their reaction be?

Well kiss my grits.

What it was all about was a story? by The Russian Northern Fleet that accused the North Koreans of Sinking the Oil rig much as they did or didn't sink the South Korean Naval Ship.

As we all know the Chinese are already drilling close to Cuba. Whether there is a collusion here or not is not clear in the published report.

Supposedly Obama has sent swat teams to protect? oil rigs presently in service. This makes no sense to me. what the heck is a swat team going to do when they face a armed Naval Vessel?

One thing that caused concern to me was the fact that all the workers were killed and they never made an attempt to contact anyone. I just in retrospect can't see an oil rig blowing up instantaneously. There are too many safety features built into them.

I'll see if I can find another link to the expose'. If one of you guys find something post it.

As far as I can tell, this North Korea torpedo bit, is a story created and written by  SORCHA FAAL. That is name you should learn because almost everything that she writes is a lie. No if and that is the biggest if I have ever said, the report is real, from Russian Intel, that doesn't mean much either. Russian Intel has been known to spin a lie here or there.

I would trust Alex Jones a thousand times before I trusted Sorcha Faal once.

Now, the Halliburton side of the story. BP has a less than stellar history, and has continously tried to pass this off as Transocean's fault.

I think the biggest story in this is that they ignored the leak for so long during the rescue operation. Which was downplayed by BP until it became strikingly apparent that this was a huge oil spill/gusher, that they need help with.

We should be ashamed of the horror that the U.S. government has loosed in our name. In Iraq, for instance, estimates of Iraqi deaths since 2003 start at 100,000 and race upward. The number of maimed or injured almost certainly is far greater. Murders, kidnappings, beatings, and theft reached epidemic proportions.

Millions of Iraqis have fled their homes and many their country. The indigenous Christian community has been devastated. The disruption of lives and families has been pervasive. It behooves American hawks to think carefully before extolling their beatific works from the safety of their offices in Washington.

Of many memorable and inspirational lines to come out of the Civil War, this is perhaps the most famous, and most quoted.  It serves as an inspirational line today, just as it did when it was first made.  The quote is attributed to Admiral David Farragut during the Civil War at the Battle of Mobile Bay.  As his fleet was entering the Bay, he was warned that the waters had been salted with deadly rebel torpedoes, or infernal machines.  As those around him encouraged him to slow down, Farragut remained steadfastly focused on his duty, and he ordered what has now become the famous line . . . "Damn the Torpedoes, Full Speed Ahead."

TORPEDOES IN THE CIVIL WAR WERE MINES...BUT IN THIS CASE, THE SHIP COULD HAVE BEEN SUNK WITH JUST THAT.  A MODERN TYPE TORPEDOE...MORE INVESTIGATION NEEDED.   GRANT

It would take more than a "couple" even if they were very large ones. It would take a full out nuclear exchange with hundreds or thousands of nukes to really end the world...

There are significantly more scary things that could be done, and with less concequence to send us back to the stone age.

Emp Attacks (with or with out a nuke)

Hijacking the infrastructure like, electrical, water, gas, etc.

Natural Disasters are also more threatening than nuclear war. Like a really bad solar flare, a super volcano, etc. Reply...

Anyways I forgot to mention that even in the that scenario, I do not believe India launches a nuclear strike. It may take the Kashmir, as a response, but I do not believe one strike would equal a nuclear exchange. Now if terrorists were able to launch multiple strikes on multiple cities, that would warrant a full out assault. Reply...

When you are dealing country v country, then the odds that the two would engage in a violent nuclear exchange are considerably lessened because of the deterrent.  I believe this too.

However, my scenario is one, like our involvement in Afghanistan, we attacked a country that, itself, didn't attack us (though of course they did nothing to prevent and possibly/probably suppored the entity within its borders that did)

Sick~o.  I will not deny that Nuclear weapons are a deterrent.  But so are fists, knives, bow-and-arrows, bombs, missles, etc.  At some point, some one, some country, some entity, etc. is NOT deterred.  And the reasons for not being deterred can stem from actual, perceived, religious or some other circumstances.

I too believe that at some point, (probably) due to an assymmetric circumstance, one will be dentonated.

Imagine if Muslim terrorists (who may or may not be associated with a particular country) were to enitrely blow up a major city in India (think Mumbai last year).  What would be the Indian response?

I am well aware of our troops stationed on the 38th, naval stations, and air bases. Plus our jets from Japan are well with in striking range.

If this wasn't an accident of some sort, and was an attack. The biggest decision hinges on China's actions to this. With South Korea and the US being huge economic partners, and China's lack of force projection, any military reaction in favor of North Korea wouldn't come for weeks. Furthermore China is scared crapless of all those refugees flowing into China.

As I wrote last year, North Korea is on the cusp of being an irrelevant military power. As CISW systems like the Phalanx are being built in South Korea, which will render North Korea (largest in the world) artillery arsenal moot. That is however 10-20 years down the road before fully implemented. So North Korea's window is quickly closing. So if they were going to do something it will be soon, while they can still rain down hell on Seoul. Reply...

Now, we can look backwards and relive the arguments of necessary/ unnecessary actions of the last decade.

However, if you can, let us just concentrate on what is the correct action going forward.

Perhaps Jihad is a member of this church that goes to the funerals of our fallen heroes and celebrates.

Sick,

You are waisting your breath. I have posted news articles from the biased liberal media that report that WMD was found in Iraq. I have posted news articles from the biased liberal media that report how high ranking Iraqi officials admit that WMD was airlifted from Iraq to Syria prior to our liberation of the Iraqi people. I have posted articles from the biased liberal media that report how members of al-quada and al-quada have been captured or killed in Iraq. I used news sources like the USA today, Time, and 60 minutes.

Jihad knows that what he is spewing are lies. He is sitting in front of his computer with his swastika and photo of bin laden proudly displayed and acting out of his hatred of the Jews, our troops, and the United States of America. His is posting out of blind hatred. This is what terrorists do.

Do like I do, have fun with his hatred, bigotry, and anti-semitism. People like this are best riduculed and poked fun at for our amusement.

Stock piling of those weapons still constitute a WMD. (UN Security Council Resolution 687)

Just because those shells were old and faulty, doesn't mean a chemical agent like VX, Sarin, or Mustard gas was. With the right training those agents can be salvaged and re-used, or used in IED's which have already been done.

The munitions addressed in the report were produced in the 1980s, Maples said. Badly corroded, they could not currently be used as originally intended, Chu added.

Apparently none of the shells are usable, and in most cases the chemicals have deteriorated or leaked away. It would be extremely unlikely that any of these shells would be of tactical use. Reply...

Posted by Rugby Reader on Mar 21 2010 3:24PM In the Article: 7th Anniversary of Invasion and Occupation of Iraq

The civil war in Korea from 1950 to 1953 that the United States foolishly intervened in, and, for the first time for a major conflict, without a congressional declaration of war, is known as the Forgotten War. The number of American soldiers killed in this senseless war is over 36,000. Yet, Korea remains divided at the 38th parallel to this day just like it was before the war began. Talk about dying in vain. None of these soldiers died in defense of the United States; all of them died for the United Nations, for the foolish policies of Harry Truman, and for the failed diplomacy of World War II.

Most Americans have no idea that there are still over 24,000 U.S. troops stationed in South Korea (some no doubt the grandchildren of the soldiers who fought in the Korean War). Fewer still probably know anything about the war that put them there in the first place.

There is another war that, incredibly, is fast becoming a forgotten war: the war in Iraq. Even though candidate Barack Obama pledged in 2007 that the first thing he would do if elected was bring the troops home and end the war, the war wasn’t an issue in the 2008 election. And before the electoral vote was even counted, Democratic opposition to the war had evaporated.

Now, on the seventh anniversary of the unconstitutional, immoral, aggressive, unjust, unnecessary, manufactured, manipulated, and senseless war that is the war in Iraq, the escalation of the war in Afghanistan has eclipsed any mention of the ongoing war in Iraq. And this in spite of the fact that there are still more than 100,000 U.S. troops in Iraq.

Jack,

Jack,

Well, people really don’t know how they will react until they are under fire.

Jihad’s problem is that he is so consumed with hatred for the Jews that he just cannot think rationally. Rational people realize that Israel has done everything that they could possibly do to bring peace to the region (including giving up some of their land) and they still don’t have peace. Terrorists like Jihad see the fact that Jewish people exist as the problem and the root of all evil. He believes that our troops are giving aid to the Jewish people …. thus he hates them too.

We are talking about someone that is so consumed with hatred and bigotry that you cannot have a rational conversation with him. His hatred will not allow him to listen to reason.

rugby is part of what is now the "Blame America First, and Blame Israel Second Crowd"......Israel constantly has tried to make peace, they have continually given the Palestinians a place to live.....what did the get in return?  More missiles lobbed at them, I don't blame Israel at all for showing these people that do NOT want to live in peace, I don't blame them at all for returning fire.....

The facts are clear: Israel has no real intention of quitting the territories or allowing the Palestinian people to exercise their rights. Israel does not truly intend to pursue peace, because life here seems to be good even without it. The continuation of the occupation doesn't just endanger Israel's future, it also poses the greatest risk to world peace, serving as a pretext for Israel's most dangerous enemies. Reply...

Peace and Semper Fidelis...

Jihad Rugby,

How much did it cost for your Islamic terrorist buddies (that you support) to target and murder the innocent civilians that our troops (that you oppose) are trying to protect during their free elections? Do you condemn your collogues for this act of mass murder, or do you support your side’s actions?

You guys are pretty sick Jihad and you guys will be defeated.

Unfortunately, there are always plenty of Americans who are willing to beat the military drum.

Don't let your children or grandchildren join the US military.................

How many years DID you beat the military drum, rugby?

Why, again, DID you stay in the military when you had the chance to get out?

Maybe just this once you will answer, but I doubt it....continue to be the phony you are....
