The Doomsday clock is a symbolic clock face, maintained since 1947 by the Board of the Atomic Scientists at the University of Chicago. This uses the analogy of human species being at a time that is minutes to midnight, wherein midnight represents catastrophic destruction. Originally, the analogy represented the threat of global nuclear war, but since includes the climate-changing technologies and new development in the life sciences and nanotechnology that could inflict irrevocable harm. The closer the clock is to midnight, the closer the world is estimated to be to global disaster.

After allowing a stimulus package that had over 8,500 earmarks after Obama promised NO EARMARKS in the stimulus package, THEY ALL SHOULD QUIT! That's crazy, and I've read about some of the tremendous waste...guard rails around dry lakes, $22k toilets. Check out some of this silliness www.stimuluscigars.com/whatsburning This has got to stop! They are just blowing through OUR MONEY! It is so frustrating. Reply...
One of the most revealing things about liberals is their insistence that only they can define a real minority or a real woman.
In the eyes of the left, Clarence Thomas, Ken Blackwell and J.C. Watts will never be real black men. Likewise Sarah Palin, the popular former governor of Alaska, will never be a real woman.
Most Americans are opposed to the Obama-Pelosi-Reid takeover of health care, believing instead that the American people should be given more choices, not fewer, and that government involvement inevitably means government control.

Just wanted to make a correction to your posting about Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation album.... The album actually generated 7 (SEVEN) top 5 singles. Black Cat was not the last top 5 single from the album. It was the 2nd to last top 5 single. The last top 5 single from that album was LOVE WILL NEVER DO (WITHOUT YOU). Which hit #1. It was 1 of 4 singles from that album to hit #1. The others being MISS YOU MUCH, ESCAPADE, and the aforementioned BLACK CAT. As one of Janet's biggest fans I could not let that mistake go uncorrected :-). Thanks for the article/mentioning of her though. God bless her and her entire family with the pain they're probably still going thru after Michaels death. Reply...
There needs to be one correction madePam Dawber is only turning 58 on October 18th -Not 59. She was born in 1951. Reply...
Be careful of the fine print on the ballot. The tax exempt American Cancer Society tricked the voters of Ohio into voting for a ban with exemptions, only to have them removed AFTER they were voter approved. If they got away with it once, you know they will do it again. Thank you American Cancer Society, we never knew all you do. The private vets clubs of Ohio who thought they were exempt according to the ballot learned what they do. I'm sure they are remembering them with with their donations and estate plans.

Insane registry laws and restrictions did not prevent the perverts, Philip Garridoan and his wife from doing what they did! The registry laws, and especially the residency / work place restrictions, have done far more harm than good. Forget about all the cases of vigilantism and suicide; forget about the fact that while these laws are proposed to protect the children, they include children, while a huge percentage of those on the list committed crimes that had nothing to do with children; forget about the fact that study after study has proven these laws not only are ineffective, but have actually made matters worse. Forget about the fact that upon release from custody, sex offenders have one of the lowest recidivism rates, not the highest. In fact those who receive counseling and treatment have outstanding records versus those convicted of other violent crimes! The fact is the registry and any restrictions should be limited to those who are proven child molesters and pedophiles; that Law Enforcement could handle and monitor effectively. Do you seriously believe a committed pedophile cannot walk or drive 500, 1000, 2500, 5000 feet or more? Jaycee Lee Dugard was abducted miles from where Philip Garrido lived!
I am sure we will see comments from hysterical, uninformed individual(s) who will suggest that all those on the registry should be locked up for life or worse and say there is no rehabilitation for these people. And for a few they are right, we need to focus on those! Once a person has done their time that should be it. That is the foundation of this great country and its legal system. Don’t like it, move to China, Russia, North Korea, Iran, or wherever individual rights are ignored. If a person is a pedophile, lock them up for a long time and provide treatment. Treatment not working, keep them locked up. Many families are being destroyed for political expediency; children of those on the registry are being abused and ostracized at school. Whole families are forced into isolation and restricted from the work place. If the registry is to truly protect the children, then let’s focus on the pedophiles and child molesters’. Get rid of the residency/work place restrictions, focus on the loitering laws. Let the rest on the registry re-assimilate into society after they have done their time, become solid, productive citizens; part of the solution not the problem. The facts, (and the Garrido case) as well as virtually all of the research, and study after study have proven what we are doing now, mostly for political expediency and to appease hysterical uninformed parents is not working and is in fact making matters worse!

The judge who sentenced the juvenile to register as a sex offender was clearly in the wrong. Ex post facto (retroactive) legislation is simply not legal and any 2nd year law student should know that.
The kid must be Native American or he wouldn't be tried in Federal Court for a sex offense. The chances are that he had no job skills and may be living on a rez with 40% unemployment, so there would be little chance that he would find work, especially with his record. If he had to register, it would make finding employment that much harder, because vigilantes prowl the sex offender lists to make registrants that much more difficult, or even to kill them.
That doesn't excuse the kid from not looking for work. He should have know to pretend. I'm reminded of the old Soviet factory worker joke: We pretend to work and the bosses pretend to pay us. Reply...
If Baucus has a bill that he thinks will make it out of committee, it would of necessity be a terrible bill. He has been assiduously looking out for the interests of pharmaceutical and insurance industry for the past decade and is unlikely to switch his allegiance to consumers at this late date. After all, their former point man in the House, John Breaux, had a two million dollar job waiting for him the day he retired. He, like Baucus, was a Democrat whom the industry could rely on, though he changed parties when the leadership changed.
The only two members (I am not including Max in this) who MIGHT vote for a good bill are Jeff Bingaman and Olympia Snowe, but she'd have Republican caucus pressure against voting her conscience. They don't want ANY of the problems of the health care sorted out if it affects their big money contributors. Reply...
Greg Smith may not have a listed phone #, and his Twin Rivers Authority cell phone was taken away a week ago, but he shouldn't be that hard for a real reporter to reach...his family owns the theater in town.
That's assuming that there is a real reporter who is interested.
The question remains why he was fired. If it was because he couldn't do his job, everyone on his board should have resigned because they haven't done their jobs either. If it was because he negotiated the contract that will keep their minimum-security jail empty for the next six months, they were the ones who approved it and who continue to defend it as viable, despite all the circumstantial evidence to the contrary.
They don't have to tell the public why they fired him. If it was for something nasty (i.e., sexual harassment, embezzlement, etc.) then he would be equally disinclined to say something about it.
It's certainly worth a call, though.
If a real reporter can be found.

Now Wilson must be aware that he was a bad boy. Rather than formally disapproving of Wilson, why not send him to the corner for 15 minutes to think about what he did. Wilson was obviously aware that the Democrats disapproved of what he said, and that the Republicans didn't. That's why the vote went along party lines. I don't see the point of formally disapproving. If the resolution was to make a point, then they should have made a point. Instead, Democrats chose to stick his nose in it and make him sleep in the backyard. Reply...

Eating Toast Says...
"No one wants to say that kids are lying or could possibly lie about such things"
There is a prejudice among many people that says we should believe what children tell us — especially when it comes to terrible events, like reported abuse. No one wants to say that kids are lying or could possibly lie about such things. The problem is, we shouldn’t assume that the only choices are lying or telling the truth. There is also this third option: sincerely believing the truth of something that never actually happened. It’s much easier than most people realize for false memories to be created, especially given the right circumstances. Most people simply don’t understand how the human memory works.
