The ever increasing need for more beds to sleep in western North Dakota is leading to some impressive building in the town...or maybe we should say booming city of Stanley.  Rising high above the plans

This spot of land just to the east of the newly opened LaQuinta Hotel near the YMCA in Minot will soon have a new strip mall built on it. The developers -- Dakota Commercial out of Grand Forks -- are not

An old favorite is back on Minot's west side at Behm's Travel Center...This of course used to be the Country Kitchen...but no more.

It was closed last year and now has reopened as the Backroad Bar and Cafe -- something very similar to Behm's Cafe that dates back to the 40s in Minot.

Amy Behm is the manager of the new-old business.  She says reaction has been very positive in the first days since reopening.  A big plus?  Accessibility.  Getting here is easy for everyone...especially those who make a living on the road...

(Amy Behm - Manager) "On this side of town there really aren't many options unless you get into town.  One of the big things with the travel center is the trucks can't haul trailers through town to find a place to eat.  We really try to service not only the locals but truckers and oilfield traffic."

Behm says the bar is actually a common thing at a travel center like Behm's...and she says it has been a hit, not necessarily for the drinks...but the food.

(Amy Behm - Manager) "People really seem to like coming into the lounge to have a nice dinner and I don't think people really connect Behm's Travel Center to having a nice dinner but it really has worked well

By the way...the Behm Burger is back on the menu for those who might remember it.  A grand re-opening is set for Saturday at the Backroad Bar and Cafe.

Having a place to lay your head at night in western North Dakota is a prized possession, and soon, a new facility will open for exactly that.  Black Gold Suites in Tioga is slated for a mid-March opening.  The 100 room facility is geared for extended stays...in fact, you can book a room for an entire year for the price of...just under 58 thousand dollars.
