A project four years in the making will finally be complete later this year -- Farmer's Union Cenex is under construction in Velva.  This will be a massive increase is size from the current location on Highway 52...and Cory Schmaltz says it has to be...the demand for more space and service is there...

(Cory Schmaltz - Developer) "The traffic, we had a count back in 2008 and it has tripled since then.  All to do lots with western ND.  We are only getting one percent of the truck drivers right now so we are after the truckers.  This new C-Store is 7 thousand square feet where the other was 28-hundred square feet.  It will have a truckers lounge and high speed pumps...the whole nine yards."

While there is space inside...there is plenty outside as well, and when designing for truckers...that is key.

(Cory Schmaltz - Developer) "Ten acres came up for sale out west of Velva and that made all the difference, and even now I am still worried about having enough truck space because the traffic just keeps going up and up and up."

The food offerings will expand at this location, more gas pumps -- it will be a big upgrade over the current Farmer's Union C-Store...and one that has a unique feature as well.

(Cory Schmaltz - Developer) "We have a big log truss going across the front of it which I am told will be in the Guinness Book of World Records.  It is over 80 feet long and weighs well over 8 tons."

Plans call for completion at the end of September.  With Business Beat, I'm Perry Olson.
