Opera This Weekend

Posted: Updated:

Postponed by the flood, it's on with the show for Western Plains Opera.
This week the opera presents not one but two single act operas.

The first is I Pagliacci which translates to "the clowns."
The classic tragedy is performed in Italian and translation will be projected on the screens along side the stage.
To balance the tragedy of the first, the second is Gianni Schicchi, an English comedy where Gianni claims his family's inheritance for himself.
Both operas feature local talent as well as guest artists from across the country.
Active in the community since 1976, and the Magic City, the Western Plains Opera can take pride in a production of this magnitude.

(Dr. Ken Bowles, Western Plains Opera) "I would say it is singularly unique. We might be the only ones in the country of this, of our description. A rural community, a small population, and doing grand opera and we hope in the grandest possible way."

Show times are tonight and Saturday at 7:30 at Ann Nicole Nelson Hall.
Tickets can be reserved by calling 858-3185.
Tickets will also be available at the door.
