Suicide Prevention Website Launch

Posted: Updated:

A growing number of stressors in our post-flood community is causing concern for one local counselor trying to shed light on suicide and depression awareness.
Dr. Bob Edwards says there has been a six fold increase in suicide attempts and actual completions in our area.
Nationwide in the past 15 years there has been an overall 200 percent increase in suicide completions across the board.
Dr. Edwards has been raising awareness in schools for the past seventeen years with a program he calls Upward Living.
He says it's time to expand the program to reach adults as well.

(Dr. Bob Edwards, Upward Living) "The number one suicide population is 65 and older. Take that now with the loss of their homes, the loss of their retirement, potential sale, and now can you imagine at 62 or 63, having a second mortgage for thirty years."

Dr. Edwards is creating a task force and website that will aim at suicide prevention.
If you would be interested in participating in the suicide prevention task force or financially supporting the effort, contact Dr. Bob Edwards at bedwards@minot.com.
