Ten flights a day out of Minot doesn't offer you enough choices?
Well, you are in luck then...believe it or not, that number is ready to jump from ten daily flights to twelve tomorrow.
Plus -- toss in days that Allegiant flies out of the Magic City and that number jumps to 14 flights on those days.
The additional flights have increased the capacity of flights out of Minot three-fold over the last two years alone.
It is growth that is almost hard to comprehend...gone are the three-flights-per-day days at Minot International...
(Andy Solsvig - Minot Airport Director) "Four daily flights on United, eight on Delta, and two on Allegiant so Sundays and Thursdays we will be at 14. We on occasion get a charter so that could add another mid-day flight. 12 to 15 depending on the day."
Of course the additional flights will only compound problems at an airport that is bursting at the seams with passengers almost all day every day now.
There is news on that front as well...
Solsvig says later this month, on June 25th, the first design of a new terminal will be ready for review...and that will continue the process of replacing this facility.
(Andy Solsvig - Minot Airport Director) "We are moving as quickly as possible and we believe a final design product will be ready by January of next year and we will go out to bid right after that."
Solsvig says even under the best circumstances, it'll be a couple of years before a new terminal is in use.
Between now and then, he says some temporary fixes are in the works including more space for passengers who are waiting in the gate area to board their flights.
