After serving their country as what their pastor calls "strangers in a strange land," one couple takes their relationship to the next level.
Friends and family are gathered at Messiah Lutheran Church to celebrate the marriage of Julie McKenzie and Nils Eldagsen.
The two met in Pristina, Kosovo in May of 2010 while both were serving their countries, Julie deployed by the Guard and Nils, or Eli, with the German Military.
"We just hung together, yep, at the headquarters."
Even after being sent home and split up, the couple's love continued to grow and Eli traveled to Mandan to see Julie and the town he would later call home.
"Was it like, January 10, 2011 where he asked me to marry him."
"The answer was positive, so then I was happy Yay!"
Eli later moved here permanently on a Fiance Visa, giving the couple only 90 days to plan this wedding.
"As soon as he entered the state, it started the countdown."
"I kinda had it in my mind that I didn't want a big huge crazy time. I just wanted it to be similar to how the fun we had over at Film City."
After exchanging vows and their first kiss as a married couple, this unique pair takes their next step in life as one.
Julie and Eli say they hope to go to Florida in September or October for their honeymoon.
