Body Found in Grand Forks Identified

Posted:

A teenager's body was found early this morning on a sidewalk in a North Grand Forks neighborhood.

Police have identified the teen as 18-year-old Christian Bjerk of Grand Forks.

Police were busy questioning neighbors and processing what they call a "crime scene" this morning after they found Bjerk's body.

Grand Forks police were called to 415 North 51st Street early this morning.

Officers found Bjerk's body on the sidewalk right outside the REM North Dakota group home.

Police say two other people were in the area and it appeared that they were involved in the call.

Police say right now, those people are not considered suspects and police aren't sure if they were involved in the incident.

But, police say they're involvement is under investigation.

Sgt. Brett Johnson with the Grand Forks Police Department says, "Processing the crime scene, talking to all the neighbors in the area, and from there trying to determine a cause of death. We don't have a lot of information right now, but hopefully we'll have more for you later."

An autopsy is being performed.

Police say there were no preliminary signs of traumatic injury, but that the cause of Bjerk's death is still under investigation.

It will be several weeks before a final autopsy is complete.
