Military youth experienced an afternoon all about aircraft today at the Dakota Territory Air Museum.
North Dakota Operation Military Kids held Military Youth Day as a day specifically targeted for youth from military families.
Military youth from grades K-12 were divided into two different sessions and toured the museum to learn about aeronautics.
Ward County 4-H Agent, Gail Slinde, says this event is ideal for military youth.
(Gail Slinde, Ward County 4-H Agent)"It's tough to be a kid these days and it's even tougher when you have parents that are in the military. You know, gone, some kids have two parents that are deployed, occasionally, and come back. It's tough, so we're trying to offer the military kids something special."
Approximately 65 K-12 grade students were at the event.
Slinde says leaning about different airplanes is a relevant topic for youth with families in the military.
(Gail Slinde, Ward County 4-H Agent)"We thought, well you know there's B-52s out at the base we thought maybe that was a good tie in and we're looking for something that maybe the kids hadn't done before."
Military Youth Day was free of charge and sponsored by NDSU Extension Service, North Dakota Operation Military Kids, and 4-H.
