Fire Traps Residents

Posted: Updated:

Minot firefighters were busy battling an apartment fire in southeast Minot this morning, which involved the rescue of a women from a second floor window.

Firefighters rushed to the scene at 400th 18th Ave SouthEast around 10:15.
Although there was no visible blaze, heavy black smoke, which appeared to have started in the basement, was taking over the building.
One of the residents, Brenda Kenny, says she was sleeping and woke to the smell of smoke, with the fire alarm going off.
She couldn't  breathe through the thick of smoke and couldn't get out of her door and called 9-1-1 from her second story bedroom.
When firefighters arrived, they had her break out a window and climb out onto the roof over-hang, where they got her to safety.

(Brenda Kenny, Minot Resident) "I am kind of numb right now. I don't know what to think. I don't know what caused it, I don't know anything."

The cause of the fire is still unknown and remains under investigation.
