Roller Derby in Minot

Posted: Updated:

It will be a knock down, drag out battle this weekend at the MAYSA arena in Minot...but it will be a competition staged on a different type of skate that's happening.

Roller derby is back for a second year in Minot as the Mouse River Rollers are ready to open a new season.
Roller derby is gaining in popularity once again -- in fact there are teams in Williston, Bismarck, Fargo and Grand Forks.
These women have discovered the sport...some by accident -- like Christina Wolff.
She says it was a friend who suggested she come by and check it out...now she is a team member...

(Christina Wolff - Mouse River Rollers) "I came and watched and it looked like lots of fun so I bought a cheap pair of skates and it was one of the best workouts I have had in my life!"  (Wendi Hoffer - Mouse River Rollers) "It is something different to do.  I am not a basketball or tennis person...but skating around and knocking other girls down is a lot of fun!"

You can check out that 'fun' this weekend -- Saturday is the date of the first bout -- as it is called.
Doors at the MAYSA arena open at five with the competition beginning at six.
Grand Rapids, Minnesota is in Minot to battle the Rollers.
