Model Aircraft Fly

Posted: Updated:

Today's wind didn't stop Minot pilots from flying hand-crafted model airplanes high in the sky.

Minot Aircraft Modelers hosted an open house this afternoon at the club's flying field to show flight demonstrations with model aircraft.
The club also shared information with the public about model aircraft and used trainer aircraft to teach others how to fly .
Minot Aircraft Modelers currently uses 15 of 55 acres to fly the model airplanes.
Members organized the club in 1973 and invite anyone with an interest in model aeronautics to give it a try.
While flying a model airplane isn't quite like flying the real thing, club member Roger Harper says it is still a rewarding hobby.

(Roger Harper, MAM Webmaster)"It's the excitement of building an airplane, going out and flying it.  It's kind of like guys who like doing their dirt bikes.  Why do they like that?  It's the adrenaline rush"

The club is a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics and is currently working to involve Minot's youth in model aeronautics.
