Steven Bannister pleaded guilty this morning to gunning down Bismarck Police Sgt. Steve Kenner.
Kenner was shot and killed July 8th 2011 -- when responding to a domestic disturbance call.
Bannister was the suspect in the case.
Kenner found Bannister in his van parked outside the victim's home.
An officer witnessed Bannister pointing a pistol at Kenner and firing.
Kenner died of a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Bannister will go through an evaluation before being sentenced.
He faces life in prison without parole.
