Williston Fire Department Receives Donation

Posted: Updated:

A 50-thousand dollar donation will allow the Williston Fire Department to enhance emergency training techniques.
Enbridge Pipelines presented the 50-thousand dollar donation to Williston Fire Chief Alan Hanson Friday afternoon.
The donation will assist the Williston Fire Department in constructing a Regional Fire Training Facility to be utilized by emergency officials both in the oil patch and region wide.
Hanson says there one type of fire related accident that is on the rise.

(Alan Hanson, Fire Chief, Williston Fire Department) "We see a lot of car fires. That has probably been our biggest increase over the last few years with all of the people coming in."

Because car fires are on the rise, Chief Hansons has pushed for the purchase of a car fire prop for training purposes.
Now with the donation --that purchase is possible.

(Alan Hanson, Fire Chief, Williston Fire Department) "It is a moveable prop which can simulate fires in either an engine fire, a cab fire or a trunk fire. It is a safe prop. It is done with propane. Instead of taking an old car and setting it on fire once in a while, again, this is a safe way to do it."

Hanson said the department has received funds from FEMA that will aid in the purchase and construction of a building-fire prop.
