Art In The Park

Posted:

Areas of Main Street Mandan are closed off to prepare for a 4th of July favortie--Art in the Park.

Food, jewelry, home decor, there's something for everyone.

It's time to pack up all this inventory for the big weekend event.

(Kara Guidinger / KLG Designs) "Last night I was up till one and I got back up this morning at 5. This last week or two has been kinda like all gun hoe."

While Art in the Park is one of KLG's biggest shows of the year, Kara Guidinger stays busy in this shop all year along.

(Kara Guidinger / KLG Designs) "I started out and it was just a hobby, and just something to challenge myself. Started gifting pieces to family and friends and they were like hey you should try to do this as a business."

Countless hours of pounding, filing and more pounding.

Turns a piece of metal from this to this.

(Kara Guidinger / KLG Desgins) "I think it's just the creativity of it. From my background I never really thought tha ti was a creative person. once i sttated playing with the metals, you can take a sheet of metal and transform it into a work of art and it's got depth and personalty and I just think it's really fun to see what you can come up with. A lot of times I will start out where I have a piece and I have something in mind and it transforms itself into something completely different."

Kara works with Fine and sterling silver, copper and brass.

(Kara Guidinger / KLG Desgins) "Sterling silver is probably the most popular, but people also like to incorporate the copper. The warmth and earthiness of the copper has made it popular."

After 6 years in the business you'll find KLG Designs across own and across the country.

(Kara Guidinger / KLG Designs) "I've had orders over most of the country. it's fun there's a piece that I just sent out that's going on it's way to Denmark. And I had a girl from New Zeeland that bought one last summer. I've done like 2 pieces out of the country, but a lot of them have been gifted to people out of the country, so that's kinda cool."
