One Man is Dead Following a Standoff Near Belfield Tuesday

Posted:

Authorities have no comment about an incident that took place Tuesday north of Belfield.

What we do know comes from the owner of the home where one man is dead after a shooting.

Mike Burian says a standoff between a Dickinson man identified as Kyle Quackenbush and authorities began about 3:30 Tuesday morning and ended about twelve hours later with Quackenbush being shot on his porch.
Burian believes the incident began as a domestic dispute between Quackenbush and his girlfriend--who lives in the Belfield area.
At some point, Kyle drove north of Belfield, broke into Burian's home, and took a .223 caliber weapon from his gun collection.
Burian says he's not why Quackenbush fled to his home, but that he does know some of his relatives and believes Kyle had been there one time years ago.
Eventually someone contacted authorities and the SWAT Team was called in.
Burian says Kyle fired a shot outside from inside the home.  You can see the bullet hole through the window.
Sometime Tuesday afternoon, Quackenbush left the house and was shot here on the porch.  You can see bullet holes marks on the porch and fridge.

KX has contacted the Attorney Generals Office, Billings County Sheriff's Department and the Southwest Technical Team.
Billings County Sheriff Dave Jurgens says he has no comment on the case while the investigation continues.
A spokesperson with the Attorney Generals office won't confirm that anything has happened, but does say when a law enforcement officer is involved in a shooting their office and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation does investigate.
Both offices say they will release information by early next week.
