More Details of Belfied Area Shooting Released

Posted: Updated:

KX News has learned more about the shooting death of a 26-year old man at a home north of Belfield Tuesday.

According to a press release from the Billing's county state's attorney, an officer from the Dickinson Police Department shot Kyle Quackenbush during a standoff with law enforcement Tuesday afternoon.

It happened about four o'clock that afternoon.

Quackenbush had been holed up in the home of Mike Burian for about 12 hours.

The shooting happened after officers with the Dickinson Tactical Team arrived at the home with an arrest warrant for Quackenbush.

It was a Class C Felony of Aggravated Assault in connection with a previous incident in Stark County earlier that day.

Authorities say there was a confrontation --- Quackenbush aimed a rifle at officers, who responded with deadly force.

Quackenbush was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Dickinson Police officer who shot Quackenbush is on administrative leave. The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation will investigate the case.
