Travel Team Tours "Most Patriotic City" Finalist

Posted: Updated:

Just days after fireworks light up the sky, two judges get paraded around in what might be the most patriotic city in the nation.

Mandan is a "most patriotic" finalist for the Rand McNally and USA Today "Best of the Road" contest.

This weekend two judges are seeing the red, white and blue sights in Mandan to see if it gets the most patriotic prize.

Mandan city leaders are giving them the full VIP treatment.

Saturday they were at General Custer's house in Fort Lincoln after taking the trolley from Mandan.

The travel team says this is their fourth week touring the country, but their first visit to North Dakota.

"We had the warmest welcome when we arrived, patriots brought us in with a motorcade, it was awesome, we had some great food, we met some wonderful people and we've been up and at 'em since first thing this morning, first McDonald's I've ever been to that's absolutely red white and blue through and through." says Sandi Mckenna/Travel Team.

The best of the road contest comes to a halt next weekend in Seattle Washington, that's when a winner will be announced.

June is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Awareness month. The disorder affects thousands of combat veterans every year, many of whom never seek out help. According to the Department of Veteran Affairs,
The Veterans Affairs Clinic in Fargo has been working on their outreach across the state, they want more soldiers to get screened, but can't force it either.
